A Sunny Wedding at Fussell Estate | Millers Creek, NC
How did you two meet?
Ethan and I met on the third day of my Freshman year of High School. I transferred into a different World History class, and honestly, the rest is “history” from there. Ethan and I were almost instantly attracted to each other, but we lived in denial for months and settled for being the best of friends (what does any normal highschooler do?!). All of our friends, including John, who was one of our Groomsmen, started calling us out and eventually we began dating.
“Ethan Mitchell still has this way of making me feel like I am the only person in the world that matters, even in a crowded space.”
What was it like early in your relationship?
The one thing that stands out the most is that we would literally stay up all hours of the night talking on the phone – I mean talking anything from our day, favorite things, to future plans, etc. & now here we are, roughly nine years from when we first met living out those future plans.
This sounds super cliché, but every day still feels like it is the beginning, honestly. Our relationship is not perfect, by any means, but it just comes naturally. Even when we weren’t together, everyone knew that we should be and that we would end up that way. Just like years ago, we are still best friends – that what makes it so easy. <3 Ethan Mitchell still has this way of making me feel like I am the only person in the world that matters, even in a crowded space.
Proposal Story?
Background info: anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE surprises…
Now, on to the story…
One day, Ethan told me that he had a surprise for me and that I could open it whenever I chose to. It just so happened that the day he told me that was the day that Appalachian State University was playing their Bowl Game. . . so, we made a deal. If ASU won their game I could open it that night (which happened to be eight days before Christmas) & if they lost then I would wait eight days after Christmas to open the gift. It seemed fair to me!
Fast forward to that night, ASU WON (!!!) They won, but I did not get to open the gift. . . Ethan said to wait until the daytime. So, after some pouting, I waited. . . and I waited some more. Then, after Church the next day, I finally begged enough and he gave me that gift and told me that I could open it! Mind you, I had absolutely no idea what this gift was – I was just pumped about getting a surprise.
Ethan handed me the gift, I opened it and pulled out a white mug with a small wooden box inside of it. Ethan took the box out of my hand, got down on one knee, and asked me the best question of my life!!!! “Will you marry me?” After, of course, screaming “YES!!” He turned the mug and it read, “the future Mrs. Mitchell” <3
“I love that even though he sees every side of me, he continues to make the choice to love me through every single season of life and every one of my flaws.”
Name one thing you love about each other.
Ethan: “I love how comfortable Lauren makes me feel whenever I’m around her. She is my “home.” She allows me to be my full self.”
Lauren: “I cannot just say one. I love that no matter the mood I am in Ethan can simply walk in the room or kiss me on the forehead and I immediately snap out of it. Ethan is truly my very best friend and I love that even though he sees every side of me, he continues to make the choice to love me through every single season of life and every one of my flaws. In Ethan, I have found my one in a million kind of love.”
What’s next for the two of you?
We have recently bought a house and are continually trying to build the careers and life that we want, while seeking guidance from the Lord every step of the way.
