A Joy-Filled Navy & Burgundy Backyard Fall Wedding | Boone, NC
How did you two meet?
Caroline: “We first met through a mutual friend in 2011. A few months after meeting in April of 2012, Jake saw that I went to MerleFest and messaged me on Facebook. From there, we messaged back and forth until we began dating on June 20, 2012.”
What was it like early in your relationship?
Caroline: “The early stages of our relationship were hard but also exciting. We were long distance for two years. We would drive to each others’ house for the weekend and visit with each other and our families. I remember anxiously anticipating the weekend because I knew we would see each other.”
Who proposed?
Caroline: “On December 1, 2017, Jake came to Roanoke, Virginia. I was in Nursing school and had just finished my last final of nursing school. Jake came to pick me up at my apartment and had made dinner plans. We were attending the Steep Canyon Rangers concert at the Jefferson Center. The concert was (as always) amazing. When the crowd stood up to give the encore invitation, Jake was called to the stage by Graham Sharp, the band’s banjo player. Jake proceeded to share a story about his love of bluegrass music and how it brought us together. Jake then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I completely lost it and burst into tears! It was so romantic and unique.”

“Most of all though, her acceptance of who I am and constant encouragement and support for all of my endeavors is what makes us special. She gets me …”
Name one thing you love about each other.
Caroline: “The things I love most about Jake is that he is always faithful, trusting, hardworking, unbelievably gifted in music, and is always true to the Lord. Jake has always been one to follow through with his promises. His talent in music and banjo playing, however, is what ultimately sealed the deal. Seeing him play brings me joy and seeing him play with my family makes me one happy girl!”
Jacob: “The things I love most about Caroline are her work ethic, drive, determination, selflessness, faith, and personality. I admire her drive and determination when it comes to her passion for the medical field and her constant concern and care for others; at work and everywhere else in between. I appreciate and admire her faith, honestly, and a positive attitude about life in general as well. Most of all though, her acceptance of who I am and constant encouragement and support for all of my endeavors is what makes us special. She ‘gets me,’ from personality to lifestyle to hobbies, and I’ll never take that for granted.”
Tell me any funny story involving the two of you.
Caroline: “In the early stages of dating, we both talked about how we eventually wanted a German Shepherd. For Christmas, we were opening our gifts from each other at the same time, and we got each other the same German Shepherd calendar! Three years later, Jake was getting me a gift, I kept asking for clues… one being ‘does it poop outside’ (me wanting a dog). Jake insisted that it didn’t. On December 27, we got our German Shepherd, Kaine!”
What’s next for the two of you?
Caroline: “Just before our wedding, we bought a new home. We are in the process of taking it from a house to a home. We stay busy with our fur-baby, Kaine. In the future, we plan to extend our education, travel, and eventually start our own little family.”
